How to Maintain Wellness While Working From Home
While there are many positives to working from home, there are also several challenges, such as maintaining your health and wellness with a different routine.
What Is Wellness?
Gallup research shows there are five interconnected elements of well-being—career, social, financial, community and physical. A survey found that while 66% of people are doing well in at least one area, only 7% are thriving in all five. Because these elements are connected, they are all affected when one is suffering.
Stick to a Schedule
It’s easy for the lines to blur between work and leisure when you work from home. If you feel a burnout coming on, make a schedule of your working hours, and stick to it. Take your breaks. If you’re working through lunch, make sure you’re keeping track of extra hours to leave early or save them for another day.
Exercise
Make up for the lack of movement in your commute by dedicating that time to light exercise at home!
Make Plans After Work
Whether virtual or in-person, having a social life is crucial to staying happy and healthy mentally. Keep up with your friends, organize a virtual game night, or take a walk after hours to help keep a work-life balance. Having prior commitments after your workday will help you avoid excessive overtime and make a clear distinction between work time and leisure.
Whether you’re loving working from home, or itching to get back into the office, knowing how to protect your wellness will benefit both you and your employer.
